Rebuilding strength after a hospital stay

Hospital stays can lead to reduced strength, stability, and energy.  As hospital deconditioning becomes more common, prompt specialist rehabilitation can improve your functional goals during your recovery. National campaigns highlight the importance of timely rehab as studies suggest 30% of older people experience deconditioning after a hospital stay.  If you or a loved one have already become frail over time before going into hospital, it can further reduce your functional activities as you are often spending more time in bed whilst you are cared for in hospital.  Whilst there aren’t specific guidelines for recovering after being in hospital, our home-based physiotherapy interventions can guide you to recover strength, mobility, and independence, where possible. Being supported at home with an activity programme designed around your own environment and usual routine offers you more confidence and lasting results.
